-Go Team! Never underestimate the amount of help you can be to someone by just being there.
-Manage expectations. Always under-promise and over-deliver
-DNF is not an option. Regardless of who you pass, or who passes you, in the end you are really only competing with yourself.
-Avoid the tramp stamp: Always wear sunscreen.
-Ride the glide. Don't make things harder than they need to be.
-Self-SAG. Always do your best to be self-sufficient.
-In-N-Out. You get out what you put in. No sandbagging, no excuses.
-Love your torture devices. Listen to your body, but do not fear pain. Respect what it tells you about yourself, and take steps to fix the problem- whether that means something internal or external.
-VMTW. Stay hydrated.
-Tower 26. When the water gets rough, just keep swimming.
-PCH. Take a moment to look around once in a while, appreciate your surroundings, and enjoy the view. Even in the worst moments [John Tyler hill] there is something to appreciate.
-It's just another day at the office. Don’t panic, make a good plan and sick to it.
-Swim buddies. It is much easier to be fearless when you need to be strong for someone else.
-Sharktopus. Don't avoid something that scares you. Do it because it scares you. Asses the risks, don't be reckless, and then push your limits. It is always worth it.
-Body marking. Despite all evidence to the contrary, most things get better with time. Youth is valuable, but fleeting- and no match for wisdom, preparation, and experience.
-Heat 101. Plan for the worst, expect the best.
-Sighting. Take the long view- this moment, this week, this season are not all that matters. Keep it in perspective.
-The Injured List. Be patient, some things just take time.
-Recovery. Get enough sleep. Respect your need for downtime.
-Mission. Don't do anything for purely selfish reasons.
-WFTW. Take nothing for granted. Every day, every single moment is a gift- even the bad ones. Revel in how good you feel and how lucky you are.
-WWBD? He would do another loop, add another mile, be cautiously optimistic, get uncomfortable, then order it protein style. Why? Because he loves us.
-If it were easy, we'd call it marathon. The things most worth accomplishing are often the most difficult.
-IronTEAM gets *it done! You are incredible, and you can do anything you set your mind to.

I wanna go fast
I finally got my bike fit- and it is making all the difference in the world! I needed to get the angles of my bike adjusted to fit the way I ride- raise the seat, lengthen the stem, change the placement of the cleats on my shoes- to give me more power and control while riding. All that technical stuff aside- it feels great! More pictures of me on the bike to follow- if they can catch me!
We have also been working on our open water swimming lately to get more used to swimming in our wetsuits, and in cold water- which is completely different than swimming in the pool!
I am thrilled to find that I am better at this than I was last year- I guess practice makes... closer to perfect!
And even with all this training we still find time for a little fun....

Desert Tri
Well, despite a nagging ankle injury, I completed Desert Triathlon in Palm Desert March 6th. Definitely a learning experience! This International distance race was for some of my TEAMmates, their very first race ever- for me it was my 3rd, but I have to say I came in with a whole new perspective.

I did not get a great "time", but I definitely learned a lot about pacing myself for a longer race, and had a BLAST racing with my amazing TEAM!

2nd Commitment
Workouts are getting longer and harder, but still better and better! Last weekend alone I biked 56 miles and ran a total of 13 miles- while I was (of course) a little exhausted by the time monday morning rolled around, I feel great! I am so proud of what I, and my teammates have accomplished so far!
While I am adding more and more distance to my workouts, I need your help to raise more and more for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
I need to raise a total of at least $2,825 by March 1st to continue this season- Please help me meet this goal by making a donation, and by asking your friends and family to help support this wonderful cause as well!
Coming up on March 5th, I will be participating in the Desert Triathlon, out near Palm Desert. Desert Tri is International distance race, and it is hard for me to imagine that just a few months ago, this would have been my main event!

Big Strides
I am about 12 weeks into the IRONTEAM training season, and while there is a long way still to go- I feel like I am making great progress- in more ways than one! I want to thank EVERYONE who has donated so far to help me support LLS- I was able to meet my first goal of raising $1000 by January 12th, and with your help I hope to be able to meet and surpass my goal of raising $4500 more by the end of the season!
After getting outfitted with new cycling shoes and pedals for my bike, I not only look more legit on the road, but they have definitely improved my climbing ability on steeper hills- which definitely came in handy when we biked 40 miles last weekend in Malibu! After about 4 or 5 pairs of goggles- I think I have finally found a winner- no leaks, no fog (so far)! Now I can just concentrate on my form and keeping a good rhythm in the pool.
Next up- the Desert Triathlon- International Distance- so check back soon!
Just a few months ago, an international distance race would have seemed like the main event... hard to believe that this is just the warm-up!

A New Challenge
A few weeks ago, I decided to re-join up with Los Angeles Team in Training, but THIS time, it's different...
With the help of my coaches, mentors and teammates, I will be training to complete and IRONMAN distance Triathlon next July 30th! The Vineman Triathlon is a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike, and a 26.2 mile run!
This is going to be a challenge, but I am looking forward to the journey. I am also excited to be training while raising funds to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society- to help support research to find a cure for blood cancers.

Nation's Triathlon
In September, I was thrilled to be able to fly back home to DC to participate in the largest Triathlon event in the country! Over 5000 participants registered for the Nation's Triathlon on September 12th.
It turned out to be a very rainy morning, which made for a very wet race course.
Despite the weather, it was a great race- and great to be so close to home!
The finisher's medal was so impressive I decided to wear it out to the bar to celebrate - probably the only time I will ever wear a medal in public!
